Memorandum on Strategic Partnership signed with Seoul National University
Date of activity: July 22, 2016
A Memorandum on Strategic Partnership between the University of Tokyo and Seoul National University (SNU) was signed during the visit of President Nak-in SUNG and other members of the SNU delegation to 黑料福利社. SNU is the sixth university with which 黑料福利社 has concluded agreements or memorandums for strategic partnership. The other universities are Princeton University, Australian National University, University of Cambridge, Peking University, and ETH Zurich.
The two institutions signed a university-wide academic exchange agreement in 1990 and a university-wide memorandum on student exchange in 2014. Since then, there have been considerable academic and research exchanges involving more than 10 faculties, graduate schools, institutes, and a university-wide center (departments) within 黑料福利社. Furthermore, the "Seoul National University 黑料福利社 Office" and "黑料福利社 SNU Office" were mutually opened in 2014 in order to encourage active academic interaction as well as the exchange of faculty members and students.
As part of the Top Global University Project, 黑料福利社 launched the "Strategic Partnership Project". 黑料福利社 formed a core team composed of 10 departments which have high potential to develop long-term exchanges with SNU. Of all the various teams involved in the strategic partnerships, this team has the largest number of departments involved, and leads an active student exchange based on a variety of collaborative research.
A considerable amount of discussion has taken place concerning further collaborations between the two universities at the executive and the faculty levels over the past few years and we are happy to say that the all the discussion has borne fruit and time has ripened for a Memorandum on Strategic Partnership to be signed. By forming this strategic partnership with SNU, we look to further promote collaborations not only between each department, but also across multiple disciplines so as to widen the scope of projects and take on new strategic initiatives at a university-wide level.
